Merkezi Kayıt Kuruluşu A.Ş. (MKK) CEO and Board Member and Chairman of the Association of Eurasian Central Securities Depositories (AECSD) Dr. Ekrem Arıkan attended in the 39th AMEDA Conference and General Assembly of the Africa & Middle East Depositories Association (AMEDA) in Doha, the capital of Qatar, on May 1-2, and held important meetings.

Dr. ARIKAN and the accompanying MKK delegation first met with the Turkish Ambassador to Qatar, His Excellency Dr. M. Mustafa GÖKSU and our economic diplomats, and held consultations on possible collaborations with Qatar and financial institutions in the region.

At the opening of the programme, Mr. ARIKAN, as the CEO of MKK and President of AECSD, met with the host CEO of Qatar Central Securities Depository (Edaa), Mr. Sheikh Saif Bin Abdullah AL-THANI and the President of AMEDA Mr. Abdulla Jaffar ABDIN and he presented plaques to them. Mr. ARIKAN stated that they aim to develop together through the transfer of knowledge and experience transfers between countries and institutions within the framework of regional cooperation. In his speech, he informed the participants on the services provided by MKK as a central depository and trade repository in the Turkish capital markets.

During the conference, it was decided that the 40th General Assembly of AMEDA to be held in October will be combined with the AECSD General Assembly Meeting planned to be held by MKK in Istanbul on 2-4 October, and that the member countries of the two regional associations will meet in Istanbul in a joint organisation.

Dr. ARIKAN, who is also a board member of the World Forum of Central Securities Depositories (WFC), paid a special visit to the CEO of the Qatar Financial Markets Authority, Tamy Ahmed Ali Al Boutamy Al BİNALİ, and held talks on enhancing cooperation between the capital markets and central securities depositories of the two countries. He shared information on the financial technology products and services developed at MKK's R&D centre, including unique solutions such as the Public Disclosure Platform (PDP), Electronic General Meeting (e-GKS) and Electronic Board of Directors System (e-YKS).

Dr. ARIKAN attended the Gala Dinner and 10th Anniversary Awards Ceremony held on the occasion of Edaa's 10th Anniversary and conveyed his congratulations. He also had a B2B meeting with the CEO of Edaa, Mr. Sheikh Saif Bin Abdullah AL-THANI, and discussed the possible projects and collaborations between Türkiye and Qatar's central securities depositories.

Mr. Arıkan also met with the Chairman and CEO of the Moroccan Central Securities Depository Maroclear Mr. Mounir RAZKI and evaluated the financial relations between Türkiye and Morocco and the potential steps to be taken between the two institutions.

Dr. Arıkan stated that:

“We are pleased to have successfully represented our country at the 39th AMEDA Conference and General Assembly. We took various initiatives to increase and strengthen our relations with the capital markets of many countries in Africa and the Middle East, with the opportunity to explain our product and service diversity, which is not available even in many countries with developed market infrastructures. We will do our utmost to ensure the successful conclusion of our concrete cooperation projects in the coming period, such as our e-GKS solution used in Indonesia. I believe that we will achieve significant gains in terms of increasing our technology exports with our products and service promotions during the meetings. The increase in mutual sincerity and cooperation in the region, where we are strong with historical and cultural ties, gives us hope that strategic steps will be taken in the financial ecosystem. In October, we are excited to organise the joint meeting of AECSD and AMEDA, both of which we are members. The meeting will take place in Istanbul, where continents meet, with the vision of uniting the markets.”
