ISO/IEC 15504-SPICE (Software Process and Improvement and Capability Determination)

ISO/IEC 15504-SPICE Policy

As Merkezi Kayıt Kuruluşu (MKK), ISO/IEC 15504-SPICE certification work was carried out to ensure that our software development processes comply with the level and quality determined by international software development standards. The SPICE policy determines how the organisation approaches process assessments and how it will use the data obtained from these assessments. The main objective is to manage and improve processes in a quality-orientated manner.

Basic Elements of the Policy:

  • Continuous improvement approach
  • Regular review and evaluation of processes
  • Process development focussed on quality management and risk mitigation

What is ISO/IEC 15504-SPICE?

SPICE is a standard developed by the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) and the International Electronics Commission (IEC) to improve the quality of software processes.

SPICE (Software Process and Improvement and Capability Determination) is a model used to determine the maturity levels of software processes and to provide continuous improvement. This standard helps organisations to analyse, evaluate and improve their software development processes. SPICE aims to prevent failures in software development and software projects, encourage quality certification and contribute to international competitiveness.

There are 5 levels in ISO/IEC 15504-SPICE Evaluation and Certification. In accordance with the regulation published in the Official Gazette dated 29 June 2022 and numbered 31881 by the Ministry of Industry and Technology, it has become mandatory for software companies to obtain the ‘TS ISO/IEC 15504 Level 2’ certificate together with the ‘TS EN ISO/IEC 27001’ certificate covering software development, software integration and software maintenance services in order to have a Software Authorisation Certificate within the scope of Public Informatics Procurement. MKK worked for certification in this direction and the process was successfully completed.

ISO/IEC 15504-SPICE Scope

MKK adopts a continuous improvement and development approach in its quality processes. SPICE goes beyond software development processes and covers a wide range of system and process improvements. It mainly focuses on the evaluation and improvement of software, system and hardware development processes.

SPICE is not limited to software development and maintenance processes. It also covers the following areas:

  • Systems engineering processes
  • Hardware development processes
  • Service management
  • Information technology services

ISO/IEC 15504-SPICE Objectives

MKK aims to do better as ISO/IEC 15504-SPICE certification:

  • Making software development processes measurable and analysable
  • Determining the competence and maturity levels of the organisation's processes
  • Reducing risks and increasing the success rate of software projects
  • Reducing costs and increasing efficiency
  • To ensure compliance with quality standards in order to compete in the international market
